The greatest league of Cricketing World, IPL is all set to kick off from 31st March, 2023 with the first clash between Defending Champions, Gujarat Titans & 4 time IPL Champions, Chennai Super Kings. On one side, there is immense joy in cricket fraternity with its inception while on the other, stories of injuries among players is catching the headlines making fans worried about their teams.
Even before the beginning of 16th Edition of TATA IPL 2023, big players got injured, some has been ruled out because of major injuries.
Following is the list of Ruled Out Players –
1. Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians)
Bumrah, the death-over specialist, will be missing the 16th edition of TATA IPL because of his serious back injury since august 2022. Second half of 2022 didn’t go well for Bumrah as he missed big tournaments like Asia Cup 2022, ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Border-Gavaskar Trophy, etc.
2. Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals)
Delhi Capitals’ Captain, Pant met with unfortunate car accident on 31st December, 2022 resulting in number of serious injuries and missing TATA IPL 2023. Indian wicketkeeper/batsman shared a twitter post updating about his health . In his absence, Australian player, David Warner is all set to lead DC tigers for IPL 2023 Edition.
3. Jhye Richardson (Mumbai Indians)
Richardson has been away from cricket after suffering a hamstring injury. He also missed the BBL decider as he was battling against the injury. Richardson hasn’t played for Australia in any international match since June 2022.
4. Prasidh Krishna (Rajasthan Royals)
Rajasthan Royals’ fast pacer, Prasidh Krishna, who enjoyed a great form in 2022 season picking 19 wickets at an average of 29.00 in 17 innings, met with a major stress fracture last year forcing him to remain out of IPL 2023. Krishna was bought in hefty amount of 10 Cr for IPL 2023 edition. Let’s wish him speedy recovery.
5. Jonny Bairstow (Punjab Kings)
Punjab Kings’ destructive opener, Bairstow won’t be playing IPL 2023 due to suffering an injury while playing golf. PBKS took it to twitter announcing the unavailability of Bairstow and named Matthew Short as his replacement. Short was awarded Player of the tournament for BBL 2022 Season for scoring over 450 runs with staggering SR of 144.48 and adding 11 wickets to his name.
6. Will Jacks (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Will Jacks is ruled out of IPL 2023 due to thigh injury while fielding during Bangladesh vs England 2nd ODI. RCB paid 3.2 Cr for buying the flamboyant allrounder and now due to injury, Michael Bracewell will join RCB as Will’s replacement, for his base price of 1 Cr.
7. Kyle Jamieson (Chennai Super Kings)
Kiwi All-rounder, Jamieson who was roped in by CSK in 1 Cr, will miss the entire season of IPL 2023 owing to his back injury. Jamieson was ruled out from 2nd test against England for undergoing surgery in february. South African speedster, Sisanda Magala has been named his replacement.
List of Injured Players who might pull their names out of this cash-rich tournament –
1. Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss IPL 2023 season due to back injury. He has been advised to undergo surgery which means he will remain out of touch for next 7 months.
He experienced the lower back issue during Border-Gavaskar trophy and since then he is away from cricket. Iyer got full support from KKR management and as a result, final call will be taken by him regarding taking part in the league.
2. Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Rajat Patidar is more likely to miss first half of IPL 2023 due to heel injury. He is undergoing rehab at National Cricket Academy (NCA). Absence of Patidar will raise concerns for RCB batting combination in the latest edition.
Rajat scored 333 runs in 8 matches at a mind-blowing SR of 152.75 with 112* as his best score in a match.
RCB will start their campaign against Mumbai Indians at their home ground, Bengaluru.
3. Josh Hazlewood (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Australian pacer sustained Achilles injury in Sydney and was ruled out of last 2 tests against India when Australia toured India for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. He also missed the first 2 tests owing to same injury. His return is doubtful and is likely to be ruled out for the entire season of IPL 2023.
Josh has wonderful last season for RCB as he scalped 20 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 8.11 with 4/25 as his best figure.
4. Mohsin Khan (Lucknow Super Giants)
Left arm pacer was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants for base price of 20 Lakh during IPL mini auction ahead of IPL 2023. He underwent surgery at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in order to remove blood clots in his left shoulder. He is in LSG camp as he continues to work on his comeback.
LSG management is hopeful to see Mohsin Khan in action in the later stage of the season. Talking about Mohsin’s performance in IPL 2022, he took 14 wickets in 9 matches with a fantastic economy of 5.97 and 4/16 as his best figure.
5. Mukesh Choudhary (Chennai Super Kings)
CSK’s left arm seamer, Mukesh Choudhary, who got picked up at base price of 20 Lakh, is also one of the latest names to be added in this list pertaining to back injury. He is currently training at National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is in constant touch with the franchise updating them about his injury.
In the IPL 2022 edition, Mukesh debuted and picked 16 wickets in total by playing 13 matches with best figure as 4/46 and economy of 9.32.
